Scott, Linwood Harding III
Linwood Harding Scott, III was born on June 29, 1969 to Linwood Harding (Sonny) Scott, Jr., and Alice Honeycutt Scott of Lucama, NC. Linwood graduated from Wilson Christian Academy in 1987 and was active in 4-H as a youth. He went to Atlantic Christian College for one year and then began working on the family farm. Linwood married the former Kimberly Pope in March 1991. Together they have had two children Jena Allison born in 1994 and Lindsey Rebecca who was born in 1998.
Since joining the family's farming operation Linwood's career has been distinguished as illustrated by the amount of recognition he has gained in a short time. He was the Standard Commercial Tobacco Company Outstanding Young Tobacco Farmer for Wilson County in 1998. In 1999 he was the Wilson County Outstanding Young Farmer and the North Carolina Outstanding Young Farmer, awards that his father also won. Additionally, he won the Philip Morris Excellence in Tobacco Production Award for 1999. In 2000 he was named the United States National Young Farmer of the Year.
His excellence in the field of agriculture has made him a leader in the agribusiness community in Wilson County. He is a member of the board of directors of the Wilson County Farm Bureau, President of the Wilson County Young Farmers, and a member of the Wilson County Tobacco Advisory Board Linwood is currently participating in the Philip Morris Leadership Development Program.
Service to his community is important to Linwood. He is a member of Saint Mary's Free Will Baptist Church, Vice President of the Lucama Youth Athletic Association, and in 2001 will be President of the Lucama Youth Athletic Association. He also coaches area youth in basketball and tee-ball. Coaching allows him to have a positive impact on the lives of area children and also provides him an opportunity to develop a stronger relationship with his own children.
Linwood loves farming because it's the family business. It allows him the privilege of working alongside his father, mother, and brother on the same land that his grandfather tilled. He hopes to pass this heritage and distinguished tradition in the farming community along to his own children.
