Zelma Godwin Pope
November 13, 1906

Henry Thomas Pope was born to John Thomas and Bettie Ferrell Pope in Wayne County and later his family moved to Johnston County.
Zelma Godwin Pope was born to Nero and Arkansas Pittman Godwin in rural Johnston County, on what is currently known as "Zelma Road". She was married to Henry T. Pope on November 19, 1921. They had six children: Donald Nero Pope, Christine Pope Woodard, Bobby Thomas Pope, Emily Pope Holloman, Henry Thomas Pope, Jr., and Marvene Pope Creech.

The Popes were farmers who lived a very conservative life. They were quite generous with their love, concern and assistance to their children, parents, other family members, and church friends.

The Popes were active members of Holly Springs FWB Church, where Henry served as a deacon and a member of the building committee. The church recognized him by naming the building fund in his honor. Henry Thomas Pope died on 1972.

At, this writing, Zelma Pope continues to reside on Zelma Road. Her daughter says, "This lady has been a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to the fullest. She has been a friend, listener, role model and motivator for all ages."

This page is given by the Pope children.
