Lewis, Nancy

Nancy W. Lewis

Nancy Lewis was a 1931 graduate of Meredith College and a teacher in Pitt County for ten years. She worked with the N.C. Agricultural Extension Service and later, spent six years as a home economics agent in Edgecombe County. She earned a master's degree from East Carolina University, where she was also a resident counselor until her retirement in 1974.

Nancy Lewis was a member of Farmville Presbyterian church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Pitt County Historical Society, Interdenominational Prayer Group, Church Circle and the Social Service League.

Ruby McKnight, a friend of Miss Lewis expressed her feelings for Miss Lewis like this:

Nancy Lewis was truly the kindest and most thoughtful person I have ever known. Having the pleasure of working with her and of being a friend was truly God's gift to me. I loved her dearly and miss her.
