Ellis, Charles Jr.

Charles Ellis Jr. was born in Wilson on November 29, 1926 to Charles C. Ellis, Sr. and Ann Royal Ellis. His brother James E. Ellis, II passed away in April 1993. Charles attended Charles L. Coon High School. On September 4, 1960, he married Helen Lee Ellis.

In 1944, Charles began his career as Ticket Marker for the tobacco auction sales. He started on the Marlboro, MD market, and worked on the Georgia, North Carolina, and Kentucky tobacco markets. Charles marked in Wilson at the Banner Warehouse for Mr. Allie Fleming and the Farmers' Warehouse for Mr. John F. Deans for four years. He worked on the Dunn market the year they opened in 1949, on the Kinston market for four years, and then the Goldsboro market for forty-two years. Charles was the sales supervisor in Goldsboro for fourteen years. He marked on the Georgia tobacco markets for 30 years and on the Kentucky markets for 49 years, his last forty on the Lexington Market. In 1989, his many years of experience where rewarded when the Ticket Markers-Auctioneers Association elected him its president, and chose him as Ticket marker of the year.

Mr. Ellis is a Charter member of Masonic Lodge 712. His is a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Elks, Shrine and Moose Lodges, and the Willow Springs Country Club.
Charles Ellis retired in 1995 after fifty-one years in the tobacco business.

He and his wife Helen enjoy golf, the beach, working in their yard, and U.N.C. sports.
