Elliott, Robert L.

“I came into Agriculture simply because I realized that there was a better way to grow much better food.”

Robert L. Elliott was presented with the 2016 “Innovative Young Farmer of the Year” Award at Tobacco Farm Life Museum’s “Breakfast with the Commissioner.” Robert Elliott is a passionate farmer and a credit to his field. He is a member of several organizations including: Marine Corps League, Justice Volunteer Fire Department, Wounded Warrior Project, The Farmer Veteran Coalition, Franklin County Small Farmers Association, and United Way of Franklin County. Robert Elliott grew up on his family’s farm in Louisburg, North Carolina before joining the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 18. Robert went back to his family’s farm after leaving the Marines and that’s when his interest in sustainable farming took off. Robert is a huge supporter of raising livestock and growing crops without all of the added chemicals and treatments that are used in corporate farming. Robert and his wife Michelle are now the owners and operators of Cypress Farms in Louisburg where they raise and market free range duck, turkey, pasture raised chicken and pork, as well eggs and other products associated with the livestock. Robert Elliott also plans on growing organic vegetables and fruit trees. In addition to his commitment to producing clean food, Robert Elliott is also an advocate for supporting this nation’s Veterans. He will be unveiling the Veterans Farm of North Carolina in 2016; this farm will provide Veterans with the encouragement and training necessary to become successful in an Agricultural career.
