Edwards, William Bluford and Nettie

MR. & MRS. WILLIAM BLUFORD EDWARDS

Known to their friends and neighbors as "Mr. Bluford & Mrs. Nettie," both were born to farming families and continued farming as their way of life together until retirement, with the exception of five years in which they operated a little country store. "Mr. Bluford" was born in Johnston County on August 24, 1898 and was the oldest child of Joe and Molly Renfrow Edwards. "Mr. Bluford" passed away on July 1, 1983. "Mrs. Nettie," also born in Johnston County was the daughter of Cullen and Piety Batten Creech. She was born on August 31, 1905 and has just celebrated her 92nd Birthday.

Mr. Bluford and Mrs. Nettie were married on March 1, 1924. They had 5 sons and 2 daughters: Lionel, Joshua Videll, William Bluford, Jr. Mickey, Victor (who died as an infant), Blanche and Eloise.

Mr. & Mrs. Edwards were active members of Bethany Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years and she taught Sunday School. Mrs. Edwards was also an adult 4-H Club Leader for 15 years and a charter member of the Bethany Home Demonstration Club.
