Beatrice Edwards Whitehurst

Beatrice Edwards Whitehurst, 77, passed away peacefully Monday morning at her home.

Bea was born in Johnson County on December 22nd, 1941 to the late Leon and Flossie Woodall Edwards. She was a member of the Kenly Methodist church. Bea had a wonderful career working with Governor Jim Martin in the communications department of the Governor's office. She received the highest honor of the state of North Carolina by being awarded the Order of the Longleaf Pine. Bea will be remembered for a calmness and having a way of handling anything that was sent her away. Family was important to her, and she enjoyed time spent with them all.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 16th, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. A service to remember her life will be held on Thursday, January 17th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kenly Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Dunham officiating. Very well follow the service in the Kenly Cemetery.

Bea is survived by her husband of twenty years, Gerald Whitehurst, sons, Chris Jones and wife Amy of Four Oaks and Paul Whitehurst and wife Diana of Kenly; daughter Paula Woodard and husband Tommy of Kenly; brother, Leon Edwards of Annapolis, MD; sisters, Louise Forehand of Chesapeake, VA; Nancy Baker and husband Bud of Wilson; Bernice Sullivan and husband Vernon of Ferrum, VA, and Carolyn Jewel and husband Bob of Beaverdam, VA; grandchildren, Deanna Whitehurst and Cameron Woodard; and her special friend Francy Legg.
